How is ScreenShield different from URL Filtering Software?

URL filters only restrict access to known pornographic web sites. While these Web filters attempt to eliminate access to known pornographic websites, ScreenShield protects users from any image displayed on a computer, regardless of its source, detecting images from all sources including: Internet, CD-ROM, DVD, hard drive, floppy disks, email messages, embedded in documents and movies. Although the prime source of illicit materials, the downloading of pictures from the Internet is only one of many ways pornography is distributed, displayed and circulated without detection.

How does ScreenShield detect explicit images?
ScreenShield's sophisticated content-based engine analyzes screen images for skin tones, providing preventive protection and permanently overseeing computer usage on PC screens. This powerful color-based screen-monitoring engine scans PC displays and checks for colors typically associated with adult and/or pornographic images.

What does ScreenShield do when it detects explicit images?
When ScreenShield detects suspect material being displayed on a computer screen, it automatically records the event and a 'thumbnail' snapshot of the computer screen is saved in a central log file. This creates a complete audit trail that can be reviewed and monitored. ScreenShield has three levels of protection that dictate what happens on the your PC. See Features for more details.

Can I customize ScreenShield's protection level?
Protection level can be tailored to suit individual requirements through ScreenShield's three(3) Modes of Operation: Passive Mode, Stealth Mode, and Active Mode. These multiple detection levels enable you to select the desired degree of protection, from a silent watchdog, detecting and storing relevant images in a log for examination at a later date to blocking triggered images immediately and locking the PC until a password is entered.

Can ScreenShield block adult content from being displayed on the PC screen?
ScreenShield offers multiple options that allow you to determine the level of protection that is right for you. Active Mode blocks offending images once inappropriate materials have been detected and logged in the central audit file. In Active Mode, once a suspect image is displayed, the screen is blocked and the computer frozen until a parent, manager or system administrator unlocks the computer.

Will ScreenShield flag images that are not explicit?
Because ScreenShield's engine is designed to identify flesh tones, these colors can also appear in acceptable images, so advanced algorithms and analytics were developed to reduce the risk of false triggers. Additionally, ScreenShield provides sensitivity level options that give you the ability to determine tolerances based on individual needs. These features that provide flexibility and control include: Sensitivity Filters, Profiles and Detection Engine Scheduler.

How is ScreenShield installed?
ScreenShield has an easy-to-use installer that automatically installs the application on your computer. It installs the two main application components: the Control Panel and the Detection Engine. The Control Panel is password protected for use by parents, managers or system administrators, and contains user options to adjust the Detection Engine to meet individual requirements. The Control Panel also contains the audit file in which suspect images are logged. The Detection Engine runs continuously, without user intervention required to start-up, scanning computer monitors looking for suspect images. Once a suspect image is found, the Detection Engine sends a thumbnail picture of the image to the Control Panel's log file.

Can simply having ScreenShield installed on a computer serve as a deterrent?
Yes, because a ScreenShield icon can be displayed in the System Tray of each personal computer, this symbol acts as a visible and persistent reminder for computer users tempted to view illicit materials.
