ScreenShield's
Components
ScreenShield's network version
consists of the Detection Engine and Control Panel.
The Detection Engine monitors for potentially pornographic
images displayed on client PC screen's and records
them to central log file. The Control Panel is ScreenShield's
central administration facility that manages Profiles,
monitors PC's and manages the log file. You can
read more about the features of the Control Panel
below.

Detection
Engine
The Detection Engine runs
on each client PC protected by ScreenShield. This
extremely fast detection engine runs continuously
in the background and scans images displayed on
each PC screen for skin tone colors normally associated
with human flesh. All on-screen images are analyzed
for anything suspected to be of a pornographic nature.
If a questionable image is detected, the Detection
Engine records the details, takes a 'snapshot' of
the screen, and transfers the information to the
Control Panel where it is stored and can be reviewed
by the ScreenShield Administrator. The Detection
Engine:
Detects images
from all sources, including:
o
Internet
o CD-ROM
o Floppy disk
o Email
o Hard Disk
drives
o Computer
files
Works on both still
images and movies
Supports all video
resolutions and screen depths of 256 colors or
more

Control
Panel
The Control
Panel runs only on the PC that will be used
to administer ScreenShield. The Control Panel acts
as a central administration point for the software,
allowing the ScreenShield Administrator to configure,
monitor, and control individuals or groups of ScreenShield
clients across the network. The Control Panel is
password-protected to prevent unauthorized individuals
users from changing the configuration or from viewing
and deleting the Log.
Filters that allow
you to adjust the level of sensitivity to images
Thresholds that allow you to set values
for a limit, in percentage terms, associated with
the amount of pornographic material present in
an image
Detection Engine Scheduler that allows
you to enable / disable the detection engine for
a specified period of time
Profiles that allow you to set configuration
options for groups of users/clients
Lockout Message Customization allows you
to display the message of your choice when ScreenShield
is in Active Mode. When a suspect image is displayed
the screen is blocked with this customized lockout
message and the computer frozen until an administrator
unlocks the computer.

Installation
Installing the network version
of ScreenShield is quick and easy. The application
can be downloaded from our website, or it can sent
to you on a CR-ROM. The Control Panel is installed
on the one PC used to administer ScreenShield and
the Detection Engine is installed on each network
PC you wish to monitor and protect. Guardware
provides self-install programs that automatically
load the software on to your computer with a default
set of configurations in place. The ScreenShield
Administrator can then customize ScreenShield, using
the Control Panel, as needed to meet your organization's
needs.
